We’ve launched v2 of Album Cover Bank, continuing our work to preserve and make accessible Nigerian album cover art from the 1950s to today.
This release focuses less on surface-level features and more on long-term sustainability, data accuracy, and discovery.
Whats new in V2
Infrastructure Upgrade:
Album Cover Bank has moved from Airtable to a self-hosted NocoDB setup. This significantly reduces ongoing costs and gives us full control over the archive as it continues to grow.
Improved data integrity:
All 5,409 album covers were manually reviewed and updated where applicable. This process helped correct inconsistencies, improve metadata quality, and prepare the archive for future research and contributions.
Visual-first redesign:
The interface has been redesigned to better highlight the artwork itself. Navigation between years is now faster, making it easier to explore how Nigerian album cover design has evolved across decades.
Improved search and performance:
Search is faster and more reliable, with overall performance improvements across the site.
This update lays the groundwork for deeper research tools, community contributions, and long-term preservation of this history.
